
Celebrate cherry season and summer with these simple and delicious cherry cake donuts! Dry cake mix and applesauce make the donut itself lower-calorie and incredibly simple to make! Whip the glaze up in minutes and you’ve got a colorful and scrumptious sweet treat!

Ingredients:
- 1 Cherry Chip Cake Mix
- 2 cups applesauce
- For the Glaze:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 ½ Tbsp. corn syrup
- 1 Tbsp. melted butter
- 2-3 Tbsp. milk
- 2 Tblsp. cherry juice
Optional: 1 pkg dried cherries
Instructions *Makes approximately 12 donuts
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Spray donut pan(s) with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, stir together the cake mix only with applesauce for about 2 minutes or until well-combined. Transfer the batter to a gallon-size resealable baggie and seal shut. Cut a small piece off one corner off the bottom of the baggie and fill each donut ring almost completely full with batter.
- Bake 8 minutes or until donuts are set and spring back up when touched. Let donuts cool in pan for at least 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack set over a baking sheet to collect glaze drippings.
- To prepare the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, corn syrup, butter and milk. Stir in cherry juice. Dip the tops of each donuts into the prepared glaze. Allow the donuts to sit on wax paper until the glaze is completely set. Optional: Garnish with chopped dried cherries and/or fresh whole cherries. Store donuts in an even layer in an airtight container. Donuts will keep for 1-2 days.
